What You'll Learn

A panel workshop with three Aussie farmers and the Local Line sales team on what it actually takes to sell direct in Australia.

Ben Polner of Volcano Produce runs a 30-acre spray-free market garden on the Great Ocean Road, selling through a farm shop, home deliveries, supermarkets, restaurants, weekend markets, and wholesale to Melbourne and overseas. Grace Yeaman of Broom and Brine ran a year-round 75-member CSA on a quarter-acre in Tasmania with a 200-person waitlist. James Hutchinson of Activista operates Longley Organic Farm and supplies seed varieties to growers across Australia. Together with Andrew Meehan from Local Line, they cover channel mix, CSA models that work in the Australian market, growing to order, keeping customers engaged, and the tools and systems that make it all manageable.

Make sure you've got backup markets for product you're unable to sell locally. We went through times with truckloads of broccoli we couldn't sell. Those wholesale markets saved us more than once.
