Whether you sell on LocalLine or buy through it, you are trusting the platform with information that sits at the heart of your business. If you run a farm, that is the customer relationships and sales history your direct sales depend on. If you are a buyer, it is the order volumes, pricing, and supplier relationships behind your sourcing. Either way, it is data you would not want mishandled.
At LocalLine, how we handle your data matters to us as much as any feature in the product. So here is a straightforward account of what we collect, how we use it, and what we will not do with it.
What Belongs to You and What Belongs to LocalLine
Every software company owns its software, and LocalLine is no different. Our Terms of Use are clear that the platform, its design, and its underlying code belong to LocalLine, and your subscription grants you the right to use it. That is standard across the industry, and it is what lets us keep building and securing the product.
The information you bring into the platform is treated differently. Whether it is your customers' details or your own purchasing and sourcing records, our Privacy Policy treats that information as yours to direct. We process it on your behalf, as a service provider operating under our agreement with you, for the purpose of running the service you pay for. We do not treat it as ours to use as we see fit.
What Data LocalLine Collects and Why
Responsible data handling begins with collecting only what the work requires. LocalLine gathers a focused set of information:
- Account and contact details, such as your name, email, phone number, and business name
- Transaction and billing information
- Your messages and support history with us
- Usage and technical data, such as IP address, browser type, and pages viewed
- Preferences inferred from how you use the platform
That information is used to operate and maintain the platform, process transactions, provide support, measure performance, prevent fraud, and meet our legal obligations. The Privacy Policy is written to comply with Canada's PIPEDA and, where they apply, the GDPR and several U.S. state privacy laws.
What We Do and Don’t Do with Data
We do not sell or hand your identifiable data to third parties. Your customer lists, sales records, and purchasing history you build remain in service to your business. When we use network-wide data to build reports and insights, it is always aggregated and stripped of anything that could identify you, your business, or the people you work with.
Deal terms stay private the same way. The prices and volumes a buyer and supplier agree on are visible only to the two of them, never to competitors and never sold to anyone.
You also hold a set of direct controls:
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any message.
- Opt out of targeted advertising and the sale or sharing of personal information in the footer of every email, or by emailing info@localline.ca. LocalLine honors Global Privacy Control signals where the law requires it.
- Depending on where you live, request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information.
What Every Platform Should Be Clear About
Any software company you trust with your data should be able to answer a few straightforward questions. Here are the ones worth asking, and how we answer them.
- Who can access my customer and sales data? You, and the team members you authorize. LocalLine staff access it only as needed to operate and support the service.
- Can I export my data, and how easily? Yes. Your orders, customer records, and purchasing data can be exported in standard formats whenever you need them.
- What happens to my data if I leave? You can take it with you, and we retain only what the law requires us to keep.
- Is my data sold or shared with third parties, and can I opt out? Identifiable data is never sold or shared. The only data we use more broadly is de-identified and aggregated, and you can opt out of marketing and of any sale or sharing through the controls above.
- Is my data used to train AI systems? No, your data is not used to train AI systems.
- How is my information protected, and who can see it? LocalLine maintains administrative, organizational, and technical measures designed to protect it, and access is limited to the people who need it to run the service.
- How clearly does the company explain all of this? Our Privacy Policy and Terms are written to be read, and this article is part of the same intent.
Insights from the LocalLine network
There is an upside to being part of a larger network. We can take broad patterns from across LocalLine and turn them into insights for your own decisions, while keeping every individual business anonymous.
That thinking is behind a growing set of features and reports. LocalLine Insights is the clearest example. By combining anonymized sales data from across the network, it shows the top-selling local products in your region each month, so growing and buying decisions can follow real demand instead of guesswork. Our annual fulfillment report does the same for logistics, publishing the real averages behind delivery fees, order minimums, and lead times, figures no single business could arrive at on its own. Pickup & Delivery in 2025: The Numbers Every Farm Should Know is one edition.
The point of all of it is to help you make better decisions, and it shows in the results. Farms on LocalLine grew their sales by an average of 33 percent last year. And because every insight is built only from aggregated, de-identified data, none of it ever traces back to a single farm or buyer.
The Bottom Line
You should never have to wonder what becomes of the information your business runs on. LocalLine collects what it needs to operate and improve the platform, processes your data on your behalf, gives you clear ways to manage and opt out, and keeps your identifiable data out of anyone else's hands. Your relationships, whether with customers or suppliers, stay yours, because they were always the point.
If you are already on LocalLine and have questions about your data or anything in this article, reach out to our team at support@localline.ca or +1 (855) 699 1026. We are staffed 9am to 9pm EST, seven days a week.
And if you are new to LocalLine and want to see how this works on a platform built for farms and the buyers who source from them, we would be happy to walk you through it. Book a demo and we will show you.
