At Local Line, we believe that building the best local food system only happens when we all work together. Farmers, buyers, and technology providers each have a role to play and when we collectively share knowledge, the whole industry thrives.

Today, most farmers decide what to grow each year based on what they’re good at or what grew well last year. While experience is invaluable, this approach misses a critical factor: what’s in demand right now. Without demand data, it’s easy to end up with too much of one product and not enough of another, leaving both farmers and buyers frustrated.

That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce Insights, our first AI-powered intelligence feature designed to give farms the information they need to make smarter, more profitable growing decisions.

What is Insights?

Insights shows farms the top 25 selling local food product in their state, updated on a per-month basis. For the first time, you can clearly see what’s hot and what’s not in your local market. With this data, you can decide which products have the best chance of selling, helping you fine-tune your planting schedule and better match supply with demand.

When using Insights, you can:

  • Select different states to explore product popularity in neighboring regions.
  • Look back in time to see what was popular during the same month last year.
  • Spot trends by reviewing month-over-month demand changes.

Whether you’re a vegetable grower in North Carolina curious about what’s trending in South Carolina, or a dairy producer in Wisconsin planning for next season, Insights gives you the clarity you need to sell with confidence.

Why it matters

Our goal with Insights is simple: leverage the power of the entire Local Line platform to help farmers make better, more informed growing decisions. By combining aggregate sales data from across our network, we’re turning information that was once scattered and invisible into a shared advantage for our entire farmer network.

When farmers plant with demand in mind, buyers get what they want, food waste goes down, and farms improve their profitability. It’s a win for everyone—farmers, buyers, and consumers alike.

What’s next

In the future, we plan to expand Insights beyond just planting decisions. You’ll be able to:

  • See average pricing ranges for your products in real time.
  • Get recommendations on which buyers are most likely to purchase your items.
  • Optimize delivery schedules based on buyer demand patterns.

We’re building toward a world where every farmer has access to the same quality of market intelligence that large-scale producers enjoy, without losing the values and relationships that make local food special.

Insights launches today for all farms on Local Line. Log in or create your account, explore what’s in demand in your area, and start planning your next growing season with confidence!
