Why Farms Switch

Barn2Door adds up.
Local Line gives back.

Here's what farms tell us when they make the move to Local Line.

01

You pay Barn2Door on every single sale

Barn2Door charges transaction fees on top of your payment processor's standard rate. Local Line charges no platform fees or percentages. Farms switching from Barn2Door typically save 40–60% on payment costs within their first year.

02

Your website and data aren't really yours

With Barn2Door, your storefront is tied to their platform — cancel, and it's gone. On Local Line, your website, customer data, and order history are yours. Export everything anytime. Your business belongs to you, not to us.

03

Reporting that lacks detail

Barn2Door's reporting is minimal — farmers have described it as “pretty much non-existent.” Local Line gives you 50+ customizable reports across sales, inventory, customers, and channels. Know exactly what's selling, to whom, and when.

04

No way to find new buyers

Barn2Door doesn't bring you new customers. Local Line's Discover network connects you with grocers, restaurants, and distributors in your region at no extra cost. New buyers find you.

Most farms complete migration and go live within two weeks of signing up.

A few things worth knowing.

Barn2Door has published incorrect information about Local Line on their website. Below are the corrected answers.

Is Local Line only built for food hubs and large buyers — not independent farms?

From its inception, Local Line has always put  farms first. We provide farms with the most affordable and easy to use software for managing their direct sales, while also providing marketplace opportunities for those farms that want to connect with new buyers. In all scenarios, the farm is always in complete control of their products, inventory, pricing, etc.

Do I get rolling subscriptions feature on Local Line?

All subscriptions in Local Line are rolling subscriptions, including the option for customers to skip, pause or cancel. Subscriptions can be added on to the Core plan for $278 annually (20% discount) or $29/month, and it is included in our Premium plan.

Can I switch Local Line plans or cancel anytime?

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time. There are no long-term contracts. Monthly plans can be cancelled at any time, and annual plans can be cancelled at the end of the billing period.

Can Local Line handle fractional sales?

Local Line’s Advanced Inventory feature is included in all plans and is specifically built to support “combined inventory” logic for fractional sales.

Do I need to buy expensive POS hardware to sell in person with Local Line?

Local Line offers a Square POS Sync that allows sellers to use any Square hardware (such as their phone!) and automatically sync in-person sales with Local Line. There is no upfront cost whatsoever. This provides by far the most flexible and affordable option for farms selling in-person.

Do I have to hire someone to build my website?

Local Line includes a free website builder in all plans, or our in-house web developer can build a custom site for a one-time fee of $999.

What happens to my website if I cancel my Local Line subscription?

Local Line users have complete ownership of their site even if they cancel their Local Line subscription.

Is onboarding with Local Line just self-serve, or will someone help me through it?

Onboarding on Local Line is a comprehensive service offered at no cost. It is not “do-it-yourself”. The support team will assist with all account set-up and training including importing products and customers, building out payment and fulfillment options, setting up price lists, and much more!

Does Local Line mark up my wholesale prices?

There is no markup for any products sold through Local Line e-commerce. There is a 3% fee if a farm would like to list with our marketplace partners like Sysco, US Foods, and GFS, but that is entirely optional and offered on an opt-in basis. There is absolutely no expectation to participate in those programs, although for many farms this presents a significant opportunity to connect with national buyers!

Is Local Line actually cheaper than Barn2Door, or just cheaper upfront?

Local Line is typically far less expensive, as there are no additional payment processing fees including (see B2D’s 1-3% of Gross Volume).  For example, a farm doing around $250k in sales on B2D pays an additional $5k in Merchant Support Fees. There are no such fees on Local Line!

Can I use multiple POS devices without paying extra to Local Line?

There is no cost associated with using multiple POS devices.

Barn2Door was just really hard on the backside to work with. The reporting was pretty much non-existent. I feel like Local Line is more intuitive for both me and my customers.

I had a subscription with Barn2Door that I wasn't that happy with. Having the team at Local Line to ask questions and help with any issues that arise has been so helpful.

Local Line is a great platform. The fact that they don't charge commission as some platforms do is huge. The more I sell doesn't mean the more I have to pay.

What is the main difference between Local Line and Barn2Door?

Local Line is an all-in-one sales platform built for farms, food hubs, and producers. Unlike Barn2Door, Local Line charges no platform fees on your sales, gives you full ownership of your data and website, includes automated inventory management across all channels, and provides 50+ reports, a built-in buyer discovery network, and sell-by-weight without deposits — all without setup fees.

Is Local Line more affordable than Barn2Door?

Yes. Local Line plans start at $79/month whereas Barn2Door starts at $99/month. Local Line charges no platform fees or percentages on top of your payment processor's standard rate. Farms switching to Local Line typically save 40–60% on total payment costs. Local Line also charges no setup or onboarding fee, and migrates your Barn2Door store for free.

Do I keep my website and data if I switch from Barn2Door?

Yes — and you get more control than you had before. On Local Line, your customer data, order history, and product catalog are fully exportable anytime on any plan. Your website also belongs to you — it stays live even if you leave Local Line. With Barn2Door, your website is typically tied to their platform and disappears if you cancel.

How does Local Line handle sell-by-weight products without deposits?

Local Line allows you to pre-authorize the customer's card at checkout, then lets you enter the actual weight after packing — the card is only charged for the real amount. No deposits, no over-charging, no awkward refunds. Barn2Door requires upfront deposits for variable-weight products.

Does Local Line have better reporting than Barn2Door?

Yes! Local Line includes 50+ customizable reports across sales, inventory, customers, fulfillment, and channels. On Local Line, you know exactly what’s selling, to whom, through which channel, and at what margin — every week.

You can customize pickup or delivery dates, add product variants (like size ranges or breeds), collect deposits if needed, and send order updates as the season approaches. When it’s time to fulfill orders, you can download packing and pick-up lists to keep your holiday workflow organized and accurate.

This preorder setup works for any seasonal product, such as turkeys, hams, meat boxes, produce bundles, or other high-demand items.

Does Local Line have better tools for selling wholesale?

Yes. Local Line’s Price Lists feature lets you create unlimited separate storefronts with custom URLs for different customer groups — retail, wholesale, restaurants, grocers — all drawing from the same inventory. Each price list can have different products, prices, minimum orders, and pack sizes. Barn2Door lacks dedicated wholesale tools and is primarily built for direct-to-consumer sales.
